George Soros A Champ In Philanthropy

George Soros is a Hungarian-American business mogul, investor, and philanthropist. He has also written a couple of books. George Soros is the chairman of Soros Fund Management, a company that he founded. Soros, however, is Famous as the man who broke the Bank of England. This is after he bought $10 billion worth of pound making him a profit of over $1 billion in a single day of sale. Soros is among the top 30 richest people in the world.

The Open Society Foundations came into existence in the year 1979 after Soros saw the need of promoting equality among all people. George Soros success has allowed him to follow his ambition to create an open society in a time that has seen authoritarian form of government dominated. The basis of open society as Soros says is on the understanding that the world is imperfect. Soros believes that what is imperfect can be improved.

George Soros charity work started years back after he helped black South African students attend the University of Cape Town during the apartheid government. He also supported dissident students from Eastern Europe.

In 1984 Soros distributed photocopy machines to universities, civil society and libraries thus making information available to all and breaking the communist party grip on information. After the fall of communism George Soros moved in to create a revolutionary movement that would help countries in Eastern Europe achieve democracy.

In 1991, Soros founded Central European University to be used as a research facility that would promote an open democratic society. Over half Open Society Foundation annual spending goes to the support of education programs all over the world.

Open Society Foundation in 1993 donated tens of millions of dollars to aid humanitarian relief efforts in Yugoslavia. Open Society does support the Burmese refugees that have been repressed by the military regime for many years. The organization has constructed low-cost houses as well as economic, legal and political reforms.

Open Society Foundation has numerous programs in the United States including reforming drug policies, changing the punitive criminal justice also challenging harsh migration laws. The organization geographical reach and continues to push and promote democratic governance, protection of the rights of minorities, respect for the rule of law, and civil and political liberties.

Soros Foundation has helped many countries to transform to a democracy and in 2014, eight of the countries that had transformed were accepted into the European Union. Two more countries were later promoted, and Open Society Foundation will continue to support other countries that want to become EU members.

Open Society Foundation Society has since recorded significant success in the primary issues such as women’s rights, minority rights and access to health care. The organization has also significantly addressed problems faced by sexual minorities, people living with HIV, drug users, people with mental disabilities, Muslims in the Europe United States and Roma in Europe.
